ABOUT

From the practice of painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, printmaking, performance and curating exhibitions, I have been developing a protean work since the late 90s.

Trained at the University of Rennes and then, accompanied by the art critic Denys Zacharopoulos, I moved to Addis Ababa in 1999. The adventure lasted 16 years: I created and directed three contemporary art galleries, taught art history at the School of Fine Arts and Design in Addis Ababa, and worked alongside artists on the Ethiopian scene.

I have been entrusted with the artistic direction of exceptional projects by renowned international institutions: UNESCO, the Goethe Institute, the Palais des Bozar in Brussels, the British Council, the African Union and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which awarded me the prestigious AFAA prize for the atypical character and the requirement of my cultural proposals.

In 2016, I left Addis to settle on the shores of the Persian Gulf, in Dubai, putting my curatorial and art dealer practice on hold, in order to devote myself exclusively to teaching and developing my personal work. A residency in Liège, an off-show at the Dubai Art Fair and a commission from the MAK in Vienna will allow me to meet a new audience and to experiment with new territories.

In 2019, after a year’s residency in London, I open my studio in Saint-Florent-Le-Vieil -where I was born- marking a radical break in my artistic trajectory. Starting invariably from the practice of the digital, I begin to invest the pictorial field, this medium dominating my work from now on.

My way of proceeding with variable geometry is enriched most often by dialogues with multiple disciplines (poetry, literature, philosophy, theology, human and natural sciences…) to send the spectator/actor to a more extended reading. Thus, whether it is CryptoLux at the Maurist Abbey of Saint-Florent Le Vieil, or the Éloge de l’Oblique at Lignée, or collaborations with filmmakers, musicians, actors, master glass-makers, or cabinet-makers, I call upon several dimensions in each of my projects, without ever sticking to a defined formal vocabulary. I invest a multitude of writings and supports.

Transmission being also at the heart of my artistic commitment, I have animated a teaching module on digital cultures at the Université Catholique de l’Ouest, Campus de Nantes for two years. Appointed in the summer of 2022 to set up the visual arts education program at the Dar Essalam American School in Rabat, it is now in the Kingdom of Morocco that I have put down my suitcases and my windy soles…
